This past weekend we sent a shipment of 429 bears and 66 dolls for children in the Navajo Nation. .
COVID-19 has become widespread on Tribal lands and has hit the Navajo Nation, a reservation which mainly spans Arizona, as well as Utah and New Mexico especially hard. And just last week the Navajo Nation surpassed New York State for the highest infection rates in the United States.
The situation on the Navajo Nation has been heartbreaking long before Covid-19, but now it is dire. We have been grateful to hear about those gathering essential items such as food, water, cleaning and hygiene and PPE supplies to deliver to the Navajo Nation. .
When Darryl Sam, a member of the Navajo Nation and his wife @mkfsam who live in Arizona saw how the pandemic was ravaging the people living on the Navajo tribal lands they decided they had to do something to help and started gathering donations. Their family project grew and they helped create the First Peoples’ Covid 19 Resource Drive. We reached out to Katherine to ask if it would be possible to send bears and dolls in their next delivery happening June 2 and she said they would love to take them. .
We are grateful for the opportunity to bring a little joy and comfort to little ones at this time on the Navajo Nation and are grateful to all those who made the 495 dolls and bears included:
Rena Prickett, Kim Black with children and grandchildren, Gina Hinz, Tashina Bosgieter and Margaret Taylor, Emily Green, Questin Francis (Beth Francis), Bryce Macdonald, Susan Workman, Mrs. Wold and 7th grade sewing class at Carden Memorial School, Karen Spotten and friends, Lunchtime Service Events at Mountain Ridge Jr High and Lone Peak High (Jill Brown), Laura Malzl, Just Serve Project of the Simcoe Branch (Marilyn Davidson), West Jordan Park Stake (Tania Finn), Sharon Park Stake (CL Sawyer and Libertad Alomina), South Hill Payallup Stake, and Liahona Ward Relief Society (Manuva’inga Havea, Kaye Ekstrand).
Thank you Darryl and Katherine for all you are doing to alleviate suffering of those on the Navajo Nation and thank you for allowing us the opportunity to send these 495 bears and dolls to the children there❤️
